After the war, from 1921 to 1935, Ben-Gurion was the secretary-general of the Histadrut (General Federation of Labor) and was instrumental in the founding of the Unity of Labor party (Ahdut Ha’avodah), in 1919, which eventually would merge with other labor factions in 1930 to become Mapai (Israel Workers Party).
